New design thinking on sustainability in NOKIA

Raphael will discuss how a team from Nokia Design is addressing sustainable and ethical issues when designing for billions of people. In Nokia Design we have a wide horizon: the world is our focus and people are our inspiration. People want to be truly connected, independent of time and place, in a way that is very personal to them. If the intangible human benefits of communicating through our devices are the rewards, it¹s the physical things we produce and consume that are the costs. We¹re not interested in sentimental greenwash, but the cold hard facts. Raphael will show a Nokia Design approach to design the right thing and the thing right.

라파엘은 노키아의 디자인 팀이 수 많은 사용자들을 위해 디자인을 할 때 어떻게 지속가능하고 윤리적인 논점에 대해서 논의하는지에 대해서 언급할 것이다. 노키아 디자인은 광범위한 시야를 가지고 있으며, 그것은 즉 세상이 우리의 초점이며 사람들이 그 영감을 줄 수 있다는 것이다. 사람들은 진정하게 연결되기를 원하며, 시공간에서 독립하려 하며, 다시 말하면 그것은 매우 그들에게 개인적인 일이라고 할 수 있다. 만약에 손으로 만질 수 없는 우리의 기기를 통한 소통에서의 사람들의 이익들이 보답이라고 생각한다면, 그것은 우리가 생산하고 소비하는 비용이 드는 물리적인 것이라고 할 수 있다. 우리는 감상적인 전환보다는 차갑지만 견고한 사실들에 대해서 더욱 관심이 많다. 라파엘은 옳은 것을 위한, 그리고 옳게 만드는 것에 대한 디자인을 위한 노키아의 디자인 접근법에 대해서 설명할 것이다.

I am a designer. Simply. I lead a multi-disciplinary team that explores new experiences and design future services and UIs. I talk a lot, I ask a lot of questions, I like to learn, I find people fascinating, and I value creativity above else. My experience at Nokia ranges from product design with S60, Nokia Contacts bar, and Lifeblog to exploratory human behavioural field research with Jan Chipchase to strategic design case studies with A View of the Future and Remade/Homegrown. I earned a Master Degree from the University of Art and Design, Helsinki, Finland in Product and Strategic Design. I joined Nokia in Helsinki in 2002, and currently live and work from San Francisco.

나는 새로운 경험과 디자인의 미래 서비스 그리고 사용자 인터페이스를 탐구하는 다 학제적인 팀을 이끌고 있다. 얘기 하는 것을 좋아하고, 질문하는 것을 좋아하며, 배우는 것과 사람들에게서 매력을 느끼는 것을 좋아하지만 무엇보다도 창의적인 것에 많은 초점을 둔다. 노키아에서의 이런 경험들은 S60을 비롯한 제품 디자인, 노키아 Contact Bar, 그리고 Lifeblog에서부터 Jan Chipchase와 함께한 실험적인 인간의 행태적인 분야 연구에서의 “A View of the Future and Remade/Homegrown”의 전략적인 디자인 사례 연구까지 다양하게 나타난다. 나는 the University of Art and Design, Helsinki, Finland in Product and Strategic Design에서 석사학위를 이수하였으며, 2002년에 헬싱키 노키아에 입사하였고, 현재는 샌프란시스코에서 거주하며 일하고 있다.
