Type: Open Registration Deadline: February 25, 2005 Submission Deadline: February 25, 2005 Open to: All Entry Fee: None Awards:Design Commission & Cash Prize Jury: Lonnie Bunch, James Cuno, Dick Friedman, Patrick Gallagher, Charles Haynes and Vic Vickrey Inspired by the famous 1922 architectural competition launched to select the design for the Tribune Tower, the McCormick Museum Foundation will commission a signature work of art through an open, international, juried, two-stage, design competition for a signature work of art. All visual art forms will be accepted. The work of art will be situated in a two-story rotunda and must be viewable in the round. Stage-one entries must be two-dimensional and must be formatted on foam core board for jury review. The jury will select 10 finalists to advance to stage-two and 10 runnersup. The proposals of the finalists and runners-up will be displayed at the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s exhibition on competitions. Each of the 10 finalists will be awarded a stipend of $10,000 to underwrite the production of an approximately ¼ scale, three-dimensional representation of their proposal. Prior to deliberations in stage-two and at the expense of the Foundation, entrants will have the opportunity to make a presentation to the jury and answer the jury’s questions. The jury will recommend a first, second and third place winner from among the 10 finalists to the McCormick Museum board of directors. The board of directors of the Foundation has the sole authority to accept or reject the jury’s recommendations and to make the final decision on awards and the commission.
